World Poker Tour began back in 2002, at the time when the popularity of poker was high enough to attract lots of fans to the poker table. The first location that seized the opportunity to run a poker tournament was Bellagio Resort & Casino, one of the most prominent Las Vegas venues with an abundance of the best slots, poker/blackjack tables, rooms for Race and Sports book, and many other ways of entertainment. The event itself was Five Diamond World Poker Classic; and since 2002, this prestigious tournament has been organized every year.

Luckily, for all avid poker fans, high rollers, and elite players looking to score big, WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic takes place yet again this year at the esteemed Bellagio.

The tournament is celebrating its 17th anniversary this year, and there will be a total of 30 different events during the 2018-2019 season. The dates for the main event tournaments are 11-15 December, starting from 12 p.m. for all days except the final table, which begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 15.

Main Event

The main attraction is the main tournament which lasts for five days.

The buy-in for Five Diamond World Poker Classic Main Event is $10,000, and the entry fee is $400. The total entry price for all players this year is $10,400. However, this sum does not mean fewer players will participate since hundreds of experienced players join the tournament each year. Last year, over 800 participants competed.

The prize pool and entrants for this year are still TBD, and you must be 21 or over to join.

Last year, the prize pool was $7,876,400 in total, and the highest prize was $1,958,065, won by Ryan Tosoc from Chicago. Tosoc was the runner-up back in 2016, and after winning in 2017, WTP Champions Cup now features his name on it, just like it will for whoever wins 2018’s main event. The total number of payouts was 81 at the end of last year’s tournament.

Location and Where to Stay

All players can choose to stay directly at the luxurious Bellagio at a discounted rate with the code “WPT Five Diamond.” The size of the lavish poker room at the Bellagio is 7,000 sq ft, featuring 40 tables and two high limit rooms. Also, it offers a 24-hour food and beverage service (table-side).
